We met with Indulge Café and Bakery owner Haley Pache, to talk about her business, menu items every new customer needs to try, and what community means to her.
Indulge Café and Bakery offers high-quality, homemade baking and fresh, wholesome food right in the heart of downtown Winnipeg. With a cozy and inviting atmosphere, they aim to be the go-to destination for client meetups, completing that important project, or simply enjoying time with your favorite people.
Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce (WCC): What do you want people to know about Indulge Café and Bakery?
Haley Pache (HP): I want people to know we exist. We’re a little tucked away in an apartment building [on 272 Main Street Unit B] so when you’re driving by you don’t often see us. We want to feed you fresh food, fresh baking, and desserts. We’ve been here a little over two years…we’re here for you!
WCC: What made you decide to open a café and bakery in Winnipeg?
HP: I’ve been in kitchens for a long time and I love doing the food, but I’ve also done a bunch of baking in my free time and wanted to merge the two together for myself and create a good working environment for people to be in. I’ve been in enough kitchens and restaurants where it hasn’t been super comfortable, and I want that comfortable environment for my guests and for my staff.
WCC: What’s one item on your menu that every new customer has to try?
HP: Food-wise would definitely be our pesto chicken pressed sandwich – that one’s our most popular menu item. Dessert-wise, it would have to be our tiramisu – a member of our staff had the tiramisu for the first time the other day and now she orders at least two every shift.
WCC: What’s been one challenge of running a small business and how have you worked through it?
HP: When I first started, I didn’t realize how lonely it would be and how isolated you feel. But now that we’ve gotten over that first hurdle and I have the staff and I have the regular customers, it’s definitely gotten so much easier and there is such a bigger sense of community and comfort. It’s been great!
WCC: Why is being part of The Chamber important to your business?
I think what makes being part of The Chamber so valuable is that sense of community. One of the biggest things about Winnipeg specifically, is the tight knit community of restaurants, the variety, that local feeling and The Chamber just really helps to push that. The Chamber makes you feel a part of something bigger where people can reach out to you and you can reach out to them.
