Our Advocacy in Manitoba
We advocate for practical, member-informed solutions that help businesses grow across Manitoba. Our focus: a more competitive provincial economy, fewer trade barriers, and stronger tools to support innovation, infrastructure, and talent.
Our Provincial Priorities
- Trade and Tariff Relief
- When rising tariffs began impacting local businesses, we led a provincial research effort and released a clear set of policy recommendations. We’re calling for targeted tax relief, aligned government support, and incentives that help businesses boost productivity and stay competitive.
- Interprovincial Trade Reform
- We supported the Fair Trade in Canada Act (Bill 47) and will continue advocating for internal trade reform that expands access to new markets and reduces trade barriers for Manitoba businesses.
- Innovation and Competitiveness
- We’re calling for a more ambitious provincial strategy to help businesses modernize and grow. That means incentives for AI and automation, expanded tax credits beyond manufacturing, and a renewed focus on access to capital. Innovation needs to be accessible for every sector.
- Workforce and Skills Development
- The workforce is evolving, and provincial policy needs to keep pace. We support raising apprenticeship ratios, speeding up credential recognition, and expanding training programs for underrepresented groups. These are practical steps that help businesses hire and retain the people they need.
- Housing Affordability
- Affordable, connected communities are critical to attracting and retaining a strong workforce. We’re calling for coordinated investment in housing, childcare, and transit so more Manitobans can live closer to work, services, and opportunity.
- Downtown Safety and Social Supports
- Public safety remains a top concern for Winnipeg’s business community. We’re urging the province to sustain core safety funding, expand trauma-informed emergency response models, and follow through on commitments to end chronic homelessness.
- Environmental Sustainability
- To drive long-term prosperity, Manitoba must capitalize on its clean energy advantage. That means investing in renewables, scaling up retrofit programs, and adopting policies that advance recycling, reuse, and circular business models.
