The 2016/17 Season
Turning Customers Into Community
There’s a seismic shift in potential when a business’s customers start thinking of themselves as a community, united around an organization that enables their potential. How can anyone from a start up to a legacy business make the leap?
John Stanton shares how his 1984 desire to pick up some quality running shoes from a knowledgeable salesperson grew into an international community – and how a renovated living room of an old house in Edmonton (hence the "Running Room") has expanded to over 117 locations across Canada and the United States.

State of the City Address with Mayor Brian Bowman

But systemic issues such as infrastructure challenges, rising labour costs and racism keep our Prairie home from growing to its full potential. You’re invited into a strategy session with our city’s leadership. Last year’s State of the City featured the announcement of impact (growth) fees. What will 2017 hold?

When Legalization Comes to Winnipeg
The owner of the largest testing facility in Colorado and a member of the Colorado Cannabis Chamber of Commerce joins us for an in-depth discussion of the benefits – and the costs – of legalization. Jeannine Machon, Business Manager of CMT Labs, was operating in her state during the “medical marijuana days” and gave influential input into the laws when Colorado transitioned to legalization. She’ll speak to best practices for directing revenue, stumbling blocks to avoid during the transition and how to balance business opportunities with community responsibility.

Climate Smart – a Vancouver-based social enterprise – has a decade long track record of helping more than 800 businesses (including local governments, financial institutions, ports and airports) profitably track and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 11 per cent within two years. Climate Smart’s President Elizabeth Sheehan shares stories and case studies to help you reduce emissions, strengthen bottom lines and build a resilient economy.
