- 2005-2006 Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce Chair Larry McIntosh says The Chamber has set an aggressive growth target of having 2008 members by 2008 in its new Strategic Plan.
"In the past three years The Chamber has seen membership growth of 17 percent," said McIntosh. "With 1650 members we currently have the most in the 133 year history of the organization, but we believe we must continually strive to do more and that’s why we’ve set this bold target."
The Membership growth target is just one of ten commitments outlined in The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce’s 2005-2008 Strategic Plan "A Vision for Growth" released at its 2005 Annual General Meeting.
The Chamber’s Strategic plan will also focus on measures that will help Winnipeg businesses find opportunities to grow and increase their workforce and in turn help to grow the City of Winnipeg.
"One of the ways The Chamber will do this is through the establishment of a ‘Business Call’ team that will conduct 200 interviews of CEO’s business owners and senior managers to assess retention, expansion and attraction opportunities," said McIntosh who was sworn in as the 112th Chair of The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce at the AGM. "We believe this will help in identifying and pursuing economic development initiatives."
Chamber President & CEO Dave Angus added that The Chamber will also be looking at a number of key policy areas in the upcoming year including Re-inventing Civic Government and developing a Tax Framework for Economic Growth.
"These are issues critical to business and The Chamber will ensure that all levels of government are aware of the business climate that needs to exist if we want to grow the economy," said Angus.
