History

 

The Winnipeg Industrial Skills Training Centre Inc. started its existence in 1982 as the Core Area Labour Training Program…a program of The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, and operated as the Industrial Training Centre from 1985 until the recent past. 

 

Initiative Objective

 

In response to projected work place demand, provide the opportunity for Employment Insurance and Employment and Income Assistance Recipients to obtain the trade skills required to successfully compete for these opportunities within the related metal trades industry.

  • April 2005 – March 31, 2006

Target Group

 

  • 25 Employment Insurance (EI)  Recipients
  • 20 Employment and Income Assistance (EIA) Recipients – 50% Aboriginal representation overall 

Training Capabilities

  • Welding, Metal Fabrication, Industrial Spray Paining

 Program Duration

  • 25 weeks

Program Components

 

  • 15% Theory
  • 60% Practical
  • 25% Work Eperience

Major Objective

 

  • accept into program – 45 participants
  • complete program – 40 participants
  • place in full-time employment – 35 participants
