We Believe Toastmasters
Public speaking brings fear to the hearts of many. In fact, it’s been found to be one of the top three fears people have.
For The Chamber, it was a simple idea – help develop the speaking and leadership skills of a group of positive-minded people, and they could become ambassadors for Winnipeg and The Chamber.
That was the beginning of the We Believe Toastmasters Club, now one of the fast-growing Toastmasters clubs in the city. Well on its way to reaching 30 members, the club meets every second Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.
Membership is $95 for Chamber members and $125 for non-members.
The program includes two-minute table topics or assigned topics where individuals are asked to speak spontaneously on issues related to Winnipeg. There are also prepared speeches, five to seven minutes in length.
Each lesson focuses on one of the basic skills of communication and builds on previous lessons. Participants are given a 10-lesson workbook on communication, which they work through to gain their “CC” – competent communicator – Toastmaster designation.
Each meeting is run by a volunteer, and all aspects of the meeting are evaluated, providing positive feedback to enhance one’s skills.
