2011/2012 Survey Results Bring Good News

October 19, 2011

MEDIA RELEASE

October 19, 2011 – According to the results of the 2011/2012 Compensation Survey for Manitoba Employers Report released today, the competition for talent is driving increases in salaries across many senior leadership roles; while benefits at all levels continue to evolve to match employees’ needs for life-work balance.

“The survey results clearly show that employers have recognized the need to attract and retain top talent, particularly those organizations who suffered staffing set-backs through the recession.  We are seeing salary increases across most employee groups trending back to normal pre-recession levels,” says Colleen Coates, National Practice Leader, Total Compensation, People First HR Services.

The 2011/2012 Compensation Survey for Manitoba Employers conducted by People First HR Services and supported by The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce covers almost 250 of the most common jobs in Manitoba industry including executive, middle management, professional, administrative, manufacturing, technical & trade,  as well as customer service jobs and provides information on salaries, incentives, benefits and workplace practices.

Some of the highlights of the 2011/2012 Compensation Survey for Manitoba Employers include:
The market rate for senior leadership roles, particularly in Sales and Operations has rebounded  since 2009 when many organizations either froze or reduced executive salaries;
In hopes of competing with the private sector for top talent, market rates for senior-level positions in the non-profit sector continue to trend upwards.
The amount of vacation time at time of hire and maximum allowed is increasing as employees search for more life-work balance.
The number of organizations in the private sector providing long term incentives has decreased since 2009; most likely due to the difficulty in linking individual or company performance to stock performance.

“In today’s globally competitive business environment Manitoba employers have come to rely on the Compensation Survey for Manitoba Employers as one of the tools to assist in the attraction, retention and engagement of qualified people,” said Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Dave Angus.
